Acting for Change!

27th Jul 2025 @ 13:00 - 17:00

THEATRE CHANGES MINDS! Acting for Change is an opportunity to experience an introduction to Brazilian Theatre pioneer Augusto Boal’s core participatory Applied Theatre approach of Theatre of the Oppressed and practice around one of its major branches- Forum Theatre.

Change, Act! are experienced Applied Theatre practitioners Paul Formosa and Charlotte Hailey-Watts who have been facilitating these techniques with communities facing the harshest social inequalities for several years, mainly in London. Charlotte has lived in Hastings for several years and is excited to bring this technique to her local town.

Identifying as disabled and neurodivergent ourselves, we facilitate the techniques through an access-focused lens, tweaking them to suit the current social climate as Boal intended.

Light refreshments will be provided and there will be 2 x short breaks for comfort and accessiblilty.

Who is this for ?You might have some experience of Theatre of the Oppressed techniques/ Forum Theatre or none at all. Either way, we will ensure that you will be challenged, learn new things and have fun!

You do not need to have an interest or background in Theatre. These techniques are ideal for anyone working with communities facing social inequalities or who are passionate about conversations and action towards mobilising social change.
